The Systematic Career Exploration Approach (SCEA) requires a significant investment of time and energy to complete.  The results are worth it.  Identifying an occupation (and matching education/training path) that is a great fit for who you are is a wonderful accomplishment, one that can sow the seeds for a lifetime of work and life satisfaction.

If you’ve successfully used the SCEA to make important career decisions, congratulations!

If you’ve started to use the SCEA and have more to go, keep up the good work!

If you are just skimming the SCEA webpages and are wondering if this approach could be right for you, please check out the Reasons to Be Systematic page, if you haven’t already.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or other difficult emotions as you ponder your future career path, please know that you are not alone.  These can be very common feelings when facing such a big life task.  If you’re finding these feelings to be a little too strong for your liking, please consider seeking support.  Support can come from a trusted family member, mentor, or friend.  Support can also come from a qualified mental health professional or a qualified career exploration specialist who also has expertise in mental health.  When I was depressed, I was hesitant to seek out others’ support.  But it was worth it.  Don’t face this stuff alone.  We’re not built to face this stuff alone.

Remember, even if you’ve successfully used the SCEA to pick an occupation, your preferences may change over time.  If this happens, you may need to revisit your choice of occupation.

If you’re so inclined, I would appreciate your feedback about this website or the SCEA itself.  You can send me feedback via the SCEA Feedback Survey or by emailing me.

If you’d like to contribute funding or expertise to help enhance this resource, which shall always remain freely accessible to the general public, please contact me.

Thank you,

Dr. Joseph H. Hammer
